Created in 2020 during the isolation of COVID-19, My Identity — My Beautiful Mess explores Prince’s personal understanding of identity at 19 years old.
During this period, Prince was learning difficult and deeply traumatic truths about himself, his family, and his past.
The series became a way to process those discoveries while questioning how identity is formed, inherited, remembered, and changed.
The work moves between who Prince believed he was, who others had told him he was, and the person he was beginning to understand himself to be.
Created from the perspective of a lonely 19-year-old trying to make sense of his history, My Beautiful Mess captures identity not as something clean or complete, but as something fragmented, emotional, complicated, and constantly evolving.
